I needed a key for my 01 Ranger, only had one. The dealership here charged me $44.00 and change for the key and programing. Maybe the Expy is higher.

The Expy itself shouldn't be higher just because it's an Expy. Does your Ranger have the PATS keys?

 

I think the dealer was just trying to take advantage of you. Wait, they wouldn't do that, would they??

 

Yes, it is the PATS key. Extra PATS keys are $19.95 if you have 2 keys. This inclludes key, cutting, and programing.

 

It sounds like the dealer was trying to take advantage of the customer by charging 80 dollars for the key

You can have up to eight (8) keys for the '03 Expy. Before I lost one I got one from the dealer (cut and given to me for FREE, if you can believe it) since the charge was $80. if you did not have both keys. A dealer profit, absolutely, so get copies of your keys before you lose them!

 

Ok, i need directions on how to program the new key. i have both keys now, but no directions. Help!

 

If you have 1 programmed key and are adding a 2nd then start calling dealers & locksmiths for the best price to program. If you have 2 programmed keys and are adding a third do the following:

On-Board Programming Method "C"
for Ford keys (Later 1998-newer Ford, Lincoln, Mercury)

If you want to initiate a new master key....
1. This requires that the vehicle be connected to special dealer equipment. There are two ten minute delays involved while this device erases all existing key programming and sets up the vehicle computer to accept new key codes. Two new keys should be ready because the system requires a minimum of two keys in the program. After the first two keys are programmed, additional keys can be entered individually by following the instructions for adding duplicate keys (below).

If you want to add a key....
**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**

1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.

2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.

3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.

4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.

5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.

6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5

As a precautionary measure for all of the above procedures, you should wait at least one minute after you have performed this until you start your vehicle.

 

Hi guys
I received my extra keys and remotes in the mail today. Went to Wal-Mart to have keys cut however Wal-Mart said they could not do it since they use a cartridge base cutter. So I decided to take my spare keys to the dealership to be cut. Service wanted to charge me 15.00 dollars to cut one key! Also, they really don't cut keys unless it comes from the dealership. That's the last time I go to TEAM Ford in Alpharetta again. To make a long story short I went to ACE Hardware to have my keys cut. So for $5.00 I got both of my new keys cut. 5 minutes later both keys were programmed.

Thanks again for the EBAY information. I paid a total of $45 for 2 sets of keys and 2 keyless remotes. The $45 includes the cutting and shipping charges. If I had purchased one key and one remote from Ford I was looking at about 100.00 dollars (key = $50 remote also about $50) and that doesn't include the extra $40 they charge to program.
