speedo not working
I have a 1985 f100 with manual tranny and the speedo doesn't work, I have been told the gearbox has to be removed to fit a new speedo cable. Can any-one advise me if this is the case, seems like a lot of work just to get the speedo going. Thanks in advance. Which we had a site like this down here, it rocks!!! Also, when did they stop making f100's in u.s.a.? Sorry all this is new to me as I have just purchased the vehicle not long ago.

As for installing or a new speedo cable or repairing yours (if its possible) you don't have to remove the gearbox, its just as simple as pulling out the instrument cluster, discconecting the cable from the back of it, and climbing under your truck, near the tail shaft of the transmission, and unbolting one 3/8ths (10mm) bolt, and popping the cable out, then you can just feed it up through the dash, and replace it with a new one.
Good luck with your truck...
