I pulled the trany out of my 1987 F-150 4X4. I'm trying to figure out which one it is. I think its a RTS but I'm not sure.
ANybody know a link to identify tranys ?
I got a HTML doucument off this site some time ago called "Domestic Truck Transmission Identification Guide" This is what leads me to believe it a RTS trany. But the guide says the RTS was used in 84 & 85. I have a 87.
According to my book, you have either a Borg Warner T-18, New Process 435, or a Ford TOD 4 speed overdrive. So, just look on the side of the trans and see what name is on it
Let me add some more info as I am getting many different identifications from many sources. This tranny is a aluminum cast, top loading (also aluminum) Tthere is a ford logo cast on the side under casting #'s. There is no drain plug. The popular opinion is a RTS but Tremec and SROD have been mentioned along with steell's suguestions above. I do know its not a NP435 and I'm pretty sure its not the T18. I need to know for certian before I order rebuild kit.
