I just purchased a gorgeously red 2000 F-150 XLT Lariat for my son. We have discovered the cruise control is not working. Is there any way to diagnose this problem with out a scanner? I have read elsewhere there is a self-diagnosis, but it was on a '95 Aerostar.
Fuses check good, all that stuff. Any suggestions?
okay...scratch that request. The one I read on this site for the guy with the Aerostar worked!!! By the way, this truck hauls ***!
My F-250 doesn't come near it even with the Diablo chip. Is the weight difference that much?
Well, it's working, so I guess the trick I used actually resets it. I held the off button down, turned on the key and waited for the cruise control light to flash, then pushed all the rest of the buttons in their described order, heard a few thunks in the dash or firewall area (strange) and took it out for a spin. (I found the instructions on this website.)
My son and I bought it Friday night. He test drove it, then drove it home, so I never did try it until tonight to see if I had done any good to the cruise control.
I couldn't believe how quick that thing pulls from a dead stop! It out accelerates my new F-250 by quite a ways! It's way fun!! My 250 pulls strong, but maybe it's smoother so it doesn't seem to pull like his does.
I saw your message regarding the reset on the Speed Control.
Could you please send me the complete sequence to reset it?
I have a Ranger 97, and the speed control was having no signal of life. Then I tried the "press off button and turn-on the key" and the lamp blinked on the instruments panel. So, I believe I have some chance to see it back, heh, heh...
1. Fully engage parking brake. Make sure brake peddle is released.
2. Begin static portion of self test by pressing and holding speed control off switch.
3. Turn ignition switch from off to run. The cruise indicator on the instrument cluster will flash once to indicate the speed control module has entered diagnostic mode. If the cruise indicator does not flash repeat steps 1-3. If the cruise indicator still does not flash, diagnose the cruise indicator.
4. Release the OFF switch
5. The cruise indicator will flash when each switch is pressed. While performing self test. Press each switch in the order described while observing cruise indicator for a flash. Note any switch activations that does not cause a flash. Within five seconds of turning the ignition switch to RUN:
Press the ON switch.
Press the RESUME switch.
Press the COAST switch.
Press the SET/ACCEL switch.
6. NOTE: the ON switch must be pressed within five seconds after entering the diagnostics mode or the speed control module will return to normal operating state and self-test must be repeated.
