4x4 differences XLT vs Lariat

Looking to order a 2015 F150 and trying to figure out if there is a difference between the 4x4 systems of the XLT and Lariat. Don't want a part time system anymore, trading a 2009 Lariat and hoping to step down to a nicely equipped XLT. Is the 4x4 in the XLT the same as what I have or is it a more full time, use on dry pavement type ? Thanks.

I've checked everywhere but it doesn't give specifics on the 4x4 system. Have seen that the XLT has a 3 position switch and I think the Lariat only a 2. Are both systems allowed to be used on dry pavement ? I know you don't need 4x4 on dry but often you go from snow to bare pavement.

Based on what I've seen and read, the transmission, transfer case, etc. are all the same for all trim levels. I think the only differences you will find will be the shape and/or positions of the controls.

Some will have 4x4a which could be used On dry, but these are trucks not escapes. Most have 2wd and high and low

In the past the Lariat was available with 4A in the transfer case and unavailable in the XLT. I don't know if that is still the case. 4A is very handy in the winter time in city driving where you may run the gamut from ice to bare pavement. 4A does not bind up the driveline on dry like conventional 4 high or low.

No the manual shows both types. Might have to get the Lariat to get the 4A one.

Even what you posted talks about them both.

That is Page 183, but I'll snag another copy to show the page #. However, I don't see anything that speaks of two different systems. Just different modes on the same system.
