'03 E-250 4.2L AOD, 7000 miles - Speed Limiter kicks in at about 83, 84 mph, will not kick off till I drop below about 81 or 80.
I try to drive about 83 on the big roads, but most people around Atlanta drive 80, when I try to pass, they speed up, I hit the limiter and drop back behind, then they slow down. IT SUCKS! Dealer claims it's supposed to be at 85 and nothing is wrong.
If I spend much time bumping the limiter, mpg goes to a worse hell than it normally is, I get a lot more black carbon around the tail pipe, and, it may be my imagination, but the truck seems to run bad for about 20 or 30 miles after.
Interesting note, I can get around most of those people if I wait for an uphill grade, then get on the pedal before they realize they are slowing down.
Any ideas, suggestions or smart a__ comments, ( except get a bigger motor,(( the dealers would deal on the 4.2 but not on the V8s)),) will be mostly appreciated.
i have a f150, and mine doesn't kick in till around 98 or so. i do agree with you though. once you hit that limiter the truck seems to run a little more poorly.
Hmm, I'm unsure about vans. The only thing I can think of would be to get a chip, but that would be costly. Then again, I'm not the greatest mechanic in the world. I would ask this question in the performance forums as well. If you are interested in a chip that could raise or remove it, call toll free 1-770-806-1955. That's about all I know to do. Stick around though, your question is bound to get answered.
The V6 prob. isn't good for pushing a 3/4 ton much past 80 very much, I only want/need to do it on occasion. Since I'm in Atlanta, Ken is only a short hop for me. I'll prob. take a ride over there this week and check into a chip. I think it would be worth the price of a chip just to firm up the auto tranny.
Can any body tell me exactly how the limiter works? I'm guessing that what ever it does results in a temporary rich condition.
