My '97 F150 V6 sat for 2 weeks and now has a rough idle and even stalls out. It continues to do this even when the engine is warmed up. Everything seems to be fine once I give it some gas or when I'm driving.
I've been to the forum a couple of times but this is my first post. Thanks for all your help and advice.
could be gunked up injectors....its likely a fuel issue...try running a tank of fuel injector cleaner through the tank. and use good quality gas. not high octane though. change the fuel filter as well.
I would check all the basic tune up stuff also....filters, plugs, wires, etc. be patient.
this does not mean the engine is shot....good luck and keep us posted
I figured it may be a fuel issue as well and had planned on changing the filter. I didn't know if the MAF would have anything to do with this as well. This is my second engine and it's not acting like the first one did when it went out.
I had the same problem with my 4.2 I replaced all kind of parts but when it came down to it i replaced the mass air flow and the coil pack. Those are the only two things that really made any difference. Not sure if that will help you at all but thats what fixed it for me.
wouldnt the mass air flow set off the check engine light...because I think in this case if REVSTER does not have an engine light on...I would guess its related to a tune up item or gas....with stuff like a rough idle I tend do be optimistic.
Is the check engine light on revster?
what kind of gas mileage...any loss?
how many miles are on the truck?
Yes I do have a check engine light on. I replaced the fuel filter last night and still have the rough idle and stalling, ( I have put in some injector cleaner as well). Fuel economy is also way down. The truck has 145,000 miles, but only 10,000 on the second engine.
hook it up to an OBD II code reader and see what that code is...it may tell you the problem...like O2 sensor, or whatever, or it may tell you what you already know...that there is a misfire in the engine. try resetting the check engine light by disconnecting the battery an d leaving it off a few minutes. That way you can make sure its not something stupid like a gas cap (not prob in your case...just an example of retarded codes) was left off or something. then see if you can tell when the light comes back on...that may help you narrow the issue. The easiest thing though would be to find someone who can hook it up to a code reader and check that.
dont let the code send you on a wild chase though...just because a sensor is getting a bad reading does not mean does not mean thats your problem...start with the easiest, cheapest, and most common sense fix.
getting that code is key though....guess work usually just eats up money on newer engines, and all their computer systems
Revster, you need to do or have a fuel pressure test done.Sounds like its starving for fuel.It could be the fuel pump or the regulator,or both. But,at any rate, thats where you need to start. After you've established that you can go from there. Good luck and keep us posted.
