Where's this vacuum line go?

I stuck a new radiator in my 94 I6 today, and as I was finishing up I found a vacuum line hanging loose. It comes off the valve assembly on the top of the AIR pump. There is a valve on the back side with a line on it which is hooked up. On the front side there is something that looks like a round filter canister. The line is coming off of this and is about 2 ft. long. I stretched it to every place I could think of and can't find where it was hooked up. Any ideas?

Hmmm, that is odd. I can not make heads or tails based on the description you gave of the current set up. My initial impression is that something is hooked up wrong. If you have a vaccum routing diagrahm sticker on your truck the air pump combination valve should have two vaccum hoses. Both of which go to vaccum control selenoids on the back of the engine. There is another valve hooked in line with the vaccum line from the canister purge tank the goes to the throttle body. Sounds like maybe some cross connected lines.....bet it runs crappy.

If I am off base try describing what you have at each location such as the vaccumm canister runs to a valve then to the throttle body. The fuel regulator runs to the vaccum tree on the manifold. Then the air pump lines run to the vaccum control motors. The vaccum control motors run to what looks like a coffe can....(vaccum res).....

Hope that helps.

This is probably wrong , as far as your 94 is concerned, but here goes nothing.

The 1992 setup has an airpump mounted below the alternator. The hoses for the air pump come up and connect to the checkvalve somewhere above and to the side of my thermostat and heater hose lines. The vacuum line for that checkvalve( the line is peach colored) goes to a solenoid that is mounted on the side of the valve cover. My vacuum line is about 4 feet long and runs past the fuel rail, around the back and connects to the solenoid on the drivers side of the valve cover. My lines are hard plastic, and I handle them carefully because they are formed to fit, and are very brittle. If your lines are the same, maybe you broke that line, and it will need a splice. Check around your fuel rail/injectors for the other end if it did break.
Does the end where it attaches to the checkvalve nipple have a rubber L-shaped boot?? That would be good. If the line dead ends with no boot, or looks broken then look for the other end.

On mine the pump is above the alternator. It's a regular rubber line and only about 18" long. The mystery end is stretched out like it's been on a fitting. I too broke some of the brittle hard lines when I changed the head and had to splice them. This thing is really tripping me out. There are lines on the valves next to the valve cover, and this wouldn't reach those anyway. I've checked around/under the intake and fuel rail and found nothing. There's no diagram either. That's a first. This one's got me stumped, but I'll take another look tomorrow. Sometimes if you walk away and come back... which reminds me of the Escort I just bought my daughter. Running rich/rough, thought I'd checked everything. Wondered about the O2 sesor today, and found it unplugged! Runs good now. Thanks for the input, and if anybody thinks of anything or has one they can look at, let me know.

Hi,

What timing. Come back into FTE for the first time in 2 months and find this thread.

I found the same hose you're talking about in my truck...one end loose.

I've only had the truck a few months. Bought it for my little brother. Fixin' it up now before I tow it to FL for him.

Anyway, just yesterday, I slid underneath to check for leaks being that it's been sitting for a while. While under there, I found a hose that went nowhere. I pulled it up and started the truck to see if sucks or blows and if it had air or liquid. Blows air.
Goes to the same coupling thingy you mention above the alternator. The other side has a hose run out and into the nether realm somewhere inside the engine.

Just thought I'd toss in my cent and a half.

This is the exact reason I don't like newer vehicles....too many vacuum lines and electrical and computer stuff. As is, my 84 has almost too much stuff for me to like it. What are the bare minimum vacuum lines that are needed to run an engine, as I am going to be building a motor for my truck, and want to minimize as many lines as possible. Any help would be appreciated.
