Got 'er put back together yet?
I'm working on mine in the driveway as weather permits. Decided to go after the timing chain while I was at it, got that in today. Heads next, after some scraping and cleaning on the block. They couldn't fix my crack, either, so they rebuilt another one for me.
I do believe that next time I do all this, I'll just pull the engine and work on it in the garage on a stand.
So how did reassembly go? I haven't posted here in a while...about 10,000 projects came up around the house, and the ol' truck was put on hold. I am getting the head machined next weekend, so the fun assembly project starts for me soon...
c96drumm- I am/was working on kind of the same thing as you guys. Lost compression (all of it!) on cyl 6. Discovered a slightly bent valve.
Got it all back together no problems. 2 Rebuilt heads, new lifters, new gaskets, NO LEAKS!
I think the valve had been broken for a very long time. When I assembled everything again I heard the same ticking noise I heard in the first place and found out it was crappy header gaskets. New gaskets and it sounds and runs great. And I have more power now.
Finally finished mine. Runs fine, so far. (knock on wood) Don't really think I have any more power than before the valve burned and the head cracked. I hoped it would be a little zippier because I had the injectors cleaned and I cleaned all the carbon and stuff from the intakes and pistons. Replaced the timing chain, too.
How's yours coming along there, bdonalds?

Well, slow...!!!
I finally got into a shop to to the valves and seats last weekend. One head is done, but unfortunately, we found a small crack in the other one. Ir runs through the seat.. I'll put a picture of it in my gallery when I remember...
So, I have to head to the junkyard to get a head, and both exhaust manifolds. How much did you pay for your head? Yours was a refurb, right?
