Picked up a motor with a set of C8EA-H heads, but somebody in there infinate wisdom, drilled the top bolts when they ( I presume ) twisted the top bolts for the exhuast manifolds . Do you Guys think this is that big of a deal to fix? Considering what I paid for this thing, I did score a 390 crank, rods,2V pistons ( stock bore size ), and misc items. Any ideas? Also, is .060 to much for an overbore ( C7AE block ) on a 390? Many thanks, Al
its not to big of a deal to fix, and .060 isnt to much of a overbore, thats what im running anyway, but any bigger you would have to have the block checked.
Depending on the cylinder wall thickness and core shaft, .060 may be too much.If you're planning on boring it, just take it to .030, unless you have it sonic tested. You could also do the drill bit test to see if it's worth spending the $$ for sonic testing first. As for the drilled out bolts, that's no big deal, just besure they're big enough for a 5/16 bolt to go completely thru and use a longer bolt ( 5/16) and use a nut on the backside.
