Need free word processor download

Mom-in-law got a refurbed computer, but it doesn't have MS Word or Works or anything else. Are there any free word programs out there I can download for her (that won't come with hidden spyware or ads etc.)? MS Word is pricey and I don't have a disk here I could install it from.
Failing a free DL, I guess I could go buy a cheapo program from Staples.

Any ideas guys? Thanks

Openoffice is basically a free, open-source version of Microsoft Office. I've heard good things about it - it's real popular with the Linux guys.

You want the "Win32intel_install" one (if you're running windows)

This program open office is great but it is HUGE and will take some time to download.

I went to the link and discovered that. Looks like a good program, but it would take forever on this computer.
Might DL it when I get home though.

If you have a cable modem it only takes a few minutes to download.

Otherwise, I can mail you a CD. Just lemme know.

Thanks, got dial-up though. I tried to copy from a laptop to the computer but didn't have the right cable (her comp doesn't even have USB ports, and it's a Gateway, so can't even buy a generic USB card. Ack.). I could wait and send her an install disk later but I really wanted to get it done before we left.
