I just picked up my new pooter and it had Norton Antivirus on it. What a pain in the Butt!! I uninstalled it and now I'm looking for a more user friendly program. Norton was constantly screwing up my file down loads on the internet. It kept asking me questions about protection parameters that are not in my vocabulary. How in the Sam Hill am I supposed to understand all that Esoteric Terminology anyway????I'm neither dumb or stupid , well maybe alittle hardheaded, but that sophisticated computer Lexicon just doesn't make any sense to me.......I NEED Programs...lots and Lots of Virus Protection Programs.....So enlighten me so I don't GET Impregnated by the Iatolla Virus...or some such......s.kuteman
I use Zone Alarm Pro, as a firewall to accompany my hardware firewall, and AVG Anti Virus, to deal with the virus threat. Both come with free versions, the paid for ones give more options. Do a search for them, and you will get to try them out.
Ok, Skuteman I know how you feel. I deal with a lot of family members who are like you and just want to use the programs and not deal with questions.
Anti-virus program....... AVG 6.0 anti virus system is what I have been using for the past 2 years. It has caught 2 viruses and 2 worms, thus far and is very easy to use and it's FREE. Updates are automatic if you want or you can do them manually. You can buy the PRO addition if you want all the features.
As far as firewalls are concerned, are you on "dial up" or connected all the time DSL / Cable Modem? My brother (computer expert / self taught programer) say's you don't really need a firewall if you have dial up since your ISP address changes every time you connect. Where as if you are connected all the time you are assigned a permanent address and it does not change, so they know where you are all the time. That's all I know.
I use Norton AV but it does not interfere with me at all. You need to check your settings. I also renew my subscriptions when they come up. The std XP firewall seems to work well.
