Well my computer has some sort of bug. I keep geting virus alert messages and pop up's come up about every ten seconds making typing almost impossible. It took me about a half hour to type this much.
Be sure to check the URL address is actually the site you want to be on. Some Viruses will redirect specific anti-virus URLs to a site that further infects your computer.
And yeah, if you browse free **** WEB sites, just assume that you'll get a virus and potentially lose every file on your computer. When my friend got them and wanted me to fix them I wouldn't waste my time 'fixing' it, just format and reinstall... he finally got the idea after the third time... It's easy to tell where the virus comes from by viewing the cache/history.
Could be a virus, or it could be a trojan/malware instead instead. But I read there is a vundo virus that does this. The popups give all kinds of "antispyware links or names...which they aren't
Go to Tech Support Guy's "Security Help Tools" and Download "HiJack This" program. This makes a log of what is running and make a copy to past to Notebook. Then go register to post your question (with details) in "Tech Support Guy's" Malware Removal & HiJackThis Log Forums. The mods and people there are very quick to help you out.
There are some really good online scanners you can try to help you in the meantime. In the "Security Help Tools" is "HouseCall" which is put out by TrendMicro. This will do a complete scan to find your problem. Generally this will track down the virus and tell you to steps to get rid of it. At least tell you what it is so you can get help to remove it.
Adaware 2007 is what you would get from LavaSoft. I also have "Spybot Search & Destroy" too. Better to have two different anti spyware programs to run after the other.Run one after the other to be sure anything "untoward" gets found and fixed. You will also find these through the Tech Support Guy "Security Help Tools" sticky. Or you can get them from MajorGeeks.com
I have AVAST Free, myself although I used AVG Free 7.5 in the past in my other computers. AVAST Free is very user friendly. I use ZoneAlarm Free for my firewall right now. My new Dell computer came with a 90 day trial Norton 2006 but it was running out and was resource hog to boot.
Since most of these malware/trojans/viruses are made to act with ActiveX/ IE Explorer in mind. I switched over to FireFox as my preferred browser instead when I got this computer. But some websites only work with IE, though, so still use it (IE 7) on occasion. Had my share of rooting out trojans, malware a nd a virus or two over the past 10 years being online. Just like driving a vehicle, just have to be aware of hazards. Good luck.
Download.com has a decent home computer defense setup you may want to look into. It uses AVG antivirus, zonealarm firewall, windows defender, Adaware, and a couple other programs. They're all free and they work together quite well. That setup would give you a antivirus program, a couple adware removers, and a firewall.
The Hijack This program that VikingBabe mentioned is awesome. I've used it with great success, I've got wonderful help and advice from their help forums.
Also stay away from Microsoft's internet explorer browser, download Firefox or Opera, they're both 100 times better and much more secure.
I had the same virus. (never go to **** sites) AVG and Spy Bot did the trick.
As furball said check your URL or it's gonna send you right back to where you don't wanna be. Good luck
EDIT; It wound up being two Trojans and a nasty Worm.
Ok, well turn off your computer and when you turn it back on tap f8 until you get a black screen asking your how to stat windows select "Safe mode with networking" and then try to download the program again. I would suggest clam av for the antivirus... Not a big fan of avg. Let me know how that goes. I am assuming you are running windows xp and have broadband internet...
