You should have a sticker under the hood with the timing setting for your emission eq. It should be 6-8 deg BTDC. If you have a PCM the setting will be different!
thanks for the help guys... im asking because i have one sticker that says 10 BTDC and one that says 14 BTDC and when its set @ 14 the engine seems to buck when the gas it put to it, at 10 BTDC its wanting for power.... help

i just tried it again at both of the recomended timing settings...... neither help it still bucks when accelerating and diesels after shut-off, what should i do?
time it to where it runs good without a light ? i usually set timing on my cars by advancing them till they ping then back it off a hair, might as well get the most power out of the motor
I think spec on a 302HO is 10 or 12 but 14 is best
maybe check your firing order too, with your dist in, can you see the timing mark on the timing scale ? is the dist close to time or a tooth off is what im asking ?
