I noticed today that the bed sits on the frame crooked, or maybe the frame is bent. I measured the wheel gaps on both sides, and the passanger has over an inch more gap. What should I do?
You know, I've noticed mine looks crooked too. Hmmmm I'll take those measurements you mentioned and see if they jive w/ mine. Maybe it's supposed to be that way. Naaah.......Hmmmm.
Could be just an adjustment ie loosen bolts and straighten?
Come on guys, help me out
My son and I pulled the bed off of my 1978 F250 Super Cab to do a frame and truck restoration. We ordered a new bolt kit for the bed because the bolt that holds the bed down in the front of the bed behind the drivers side was a phillips head bolt, we had to weld a nut to the head of the bolt to remove it. After installing the bed agian, using the new bolt kit, I tried to install the bed with the same amount of space on each side of the cab, but the bolts would not line up. When the bolts lined up the bed was off set, with more of the bed hanging over on the passanger side. I checked out a couple of other 1978 and 1979's and they were the same way, I figured it must be a factory thing. Is yours the same way ? sounds like it, let me know.
Mine '74 and '75 are "off" too. Not by much, but when you look real good the bed is not quite lined up with the cab. I don't pay it much attention since my '96 bed and cab have been "off" since day one. I noticed it the first time I washed it. Could slip my hand in between the bed and cab to wash up in there on one side. Could barely get my fingers in on the other. Been paying attention to other pickups. All of them are "off" too.
