Is the rattling coming from the front end(suspension) or the engine? If it's the engine, does the rattle vary with RPMs? Also, you need to pull the codes to better diagnose the CEL.
I dont think the two are related, but I dont know. I have a 2000 xtl and love it but have had alot of recalls. The seat bolt and throttle cable replacement both free. Shortly after that my check light came on but it ran fine. The only thing it would do is when it was cold it would not idle like the chock was off. I took it in and the guy told me it was a recall. The manafold lets in air.
