I have a 2000 Ford Ranger with a flex fuel system.
The engine was being turned off while driving. After coming to a stop and turning the key completely off, it re-starts O.K. This has happened several times.
There were errors for both the Flex Fuel Sensor and the Cam Shaft Positioning Sensor. The dealer replaced the Flex Fuel Sensor because they saw moisture on the sensor.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Would a bad Flex Fuel Sensor turn off the engine while in gear?
I have a 2000 Ranger and just completed repairs. Problem I was driving down road and engine would loose power and cut-out At highway speeds. When I came to a stop, tried to go had no power and RPMs went up and cut out then finally would not stay running and could not start. Replaced the Flex Fuel Sensor ($583.00) changed oil due to fuel in it and now it runs fine. Quite an expensive repair for something I can't use in NY since their is not Ethanol.

Welcome Paul.
From what I've come to understand, the sensor is sort of the "achilles heel" of the flex fuel system. And sure enough, when it goes bad, people feel do the pain ($$).
