troubleshooting

99 F-250 super duty, 4x4, powerstroke, lariat, 3.73 rear. speedo does not work until 57mph. ABS light is illuminated constantly. OD annunciator flashes untill 57 mph or greater is achieved and the speed is held for 30 seconds. any ideas??

thanks, unclematty

p.s. trucke was "born" 6/99, so there is only rear abs.

Speed sensor on the rear end...most likely $21.00 and 5 mins to change.

You'll have to remove the bolt and take the actual VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) out and clean that too. It may have a lot of metal crap on it. If that doesn't do it, then just buy a new one.

Another thing, if you get a new one make sure that if the old one has an O-ring around the cylinder part that holds the sensor (sensor looks like a flat screwdriver blade.) that the new one also does. Not all years have an O-ring on the VSS. If your old one has an O-ring and the replacement doesn't, you'll have a leak. (Doh, ok that was obvious.)

I just went to the dealer and asked for one for my model year, went home and fixed it in 10 mins. Cost 22 bucks.
