first off there were minor changes to the doors in 94 or 95 at the very bottem there was a slight creae added. 3rd brake light was added about the same time as was air bags. i havent noticed much difference besides those between my 93 and my dads 95.

Is there any mechanical differences or advantages between them.Would a 92 be as reliable mechanically as a 95.

only thing is with the E4OD auto tranny. if u get one, go for a 95 or newer the ealier ones were problematic.

The 96 has OBD-II diagnostics and mass air. From a control standpoint it is completely different from the earlier trucks. Because of the OBD-II, it is somewhat less friendly to modification than you would expect with MAF. Other than that, the 95 and 96 trucks are identical. The big item is the E4OD, Optikal is spot on about that.

I bought a 96 with the 4.9/E4OD to get the tow rating. If I had it to do over again, I'd have looked for a 95 with 4.9/M5OD and pulled the Mazdog POS out and put in a ZF. (Just my .02) Whatever you do, look for a truck with the H9 axle code (3.55 Trac-Lok.) Probably half of the modification questions on this board come from people who want more gears than their 3.08s or 3.31s or want better traction than their open rears allow.

how'd i over look the OBD-II...and mass air change overs.

also if u get a 300 they were speed density until 95, mass air in 96

the 302 got mass air in about 94 w/ auto only

and the 351 stayed speed density until 96 i believe.

Some new options were available in 1994. These included keyless entry/anti-theft system, new 40/20/40 seat, CD player, auto-dimming rear view mirror, and off-road package. The Eddie Bauer trim package became available on F-150 in late 94. BTW, it was 94 that brought the driver's air bag (under 8500 gvwr) and 3rd brake light.

If you want a 4 speed manual or AOD, it's 93 or older.

I'm kinda biased toward 95. You got most of the newer 92-96 features but it's still OBD-I.

S/D and MAF are two different control strategies for EFI. S/D is generally less flexible and less tolerant of major modifications. BUT the OBD-II diagnostics are designed to make the engine "tamper-proof" (i.e. inherently modification resistant) so it's pretty much a toss-up. Knowing what I know now, I should have bought a 95.

so ur sayin that since the 96's have OBD-II it is hard to modify stuff because of the sensors. In a 95 it is only ODB-1 right. Is that more friendly to modifications?

My 95 model with a 5.0 engine and an auto trans. came with mass air and I like the fact it is OBD-I, but the down side is you can't use a Diablo or superchips tuner unless you have OBD-II.

Listen.. alot of technical mumbo-jumbo won't help ya too much. You just want to take your time and be very vigilante about searching for a real nice looking well-cared-for truck. F150's are everywhere, but there are a few real Gems out there. The 92 to 96 was a great series of really nicely designed trucks. No matter what you do, they all run about the same, only difference is 4x4 versus 4x2. Just make sure you buy a truck from an original owner that has all repair/maintence receipts. I just saw a mint 1995 at the gas station two weeks ago, (near Hershey, Pa.) that was so clean I pulled over and offered the guy money for it on the spot. It was a 4x4 XLT, and I swear, the thing looked like it was just pulled off the car-carrier. It turns out, that the owner had just bought it two months earlier, from a retired old man. The truck had 50,000 miles on it, and looked brand new. It was mind-blowing!!! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with any truck package you get, Its all good!!!

I got my '95 F-250 with 66,000 miles on it in May of 2002. Everything on it works good, got it from the dealer, where it was traded in by the original owner. So far I've been very satisfied with it, other than the fact that it gets only 11mpg. Only problems I've had with it was the original battery died last winter, and the auto hubs crapped out on me last month, but I wanted to change to Warn Manuals anyway, so that wasn't bad at all.

I researched this same info. Ultimately I went with my 95 because 5.8 is a roller cammed mass air motor, oh the E4OD was junk.
