Or you could just do what I did......buy one with a e40d and burn it up a week later. There is just a few things to know about the older ones before 1995, junk the worthless tranny cooler in the radiator and bypass it all together and put in an external one. That is why mine burned up. Ford had a problem with the coolers in the radiators either plugged up or collapsing internally under heat (which is what mine did). My rebuilt on is fantasic. Had them modify the shift valves to shift firmer and quicker, updated the front pump and did a couple of other updates to make them even better than the 1995 and 1996's. Also got a 11"x11"x1 1/2" cooler on it now.
If you buy an older one just make sure if it has been rebuilt it had all the updates. People have all their own opinions about this transmission but it works great in my truck now. Every tranny has had some problems.......just something to keep in mind.
Also keep in mind that the 1994 model year was when the R134a refrigerant replaced the old R12 - makes for easier, cheaper servicing if you go the newer route. On the other hand, upgrading is not now as expensive as it once was. The Broncos got the 4 wheel ABS in 1993; a plus or minus, depending on your point of view. The E4OD? IMO, a great unit - no matter what year. We have a 92 with 200,000 miles and a 95 with almost 300,000 that have given us no problems. Just be sure to keep 'em cool (as you should ANY transmission) and serviced regularly.
Hello all I am a Dad that is pretty mechanically inclined. My son Hunter is 15. I am so excited he wanted an old school Ford F-150 for his first vehicle. I have been a ford guy my entire life. And still own my 1970 Ford Fairlane 500 with a 302 mild cam holly etc./hot rod. I have had it for 30+ years.
So with that said we bought a 1995 Ford F-150 with money he earned for $7000 to delivered to our door. It is completely rust free from Arizona and shipped it here to New England. It is a 2 wheel drive. Originally he was ok with that now he would like to convert it to 4x4. I have the opportunity to buy a 1992 Ford F-150 Ext cab 4x4 that is rotted but runs and drives and 4x4 is fully operational for $600. it will cost $300 in gas to go pick it up. is it worth it is everything just unbolting and re bolting. I figure maybe 20 hours to complete it.
Your thoughts,
What is the value of a clean 4x4 rust free F-150 ex cab once we paint it and upgrade it to 4x4

Hey there, I don't know if you realize but you have buried you question at the end of a very old unrelated tread so it probably won't get the attention you are looking for. I suggest you start a new thread with your question, you will see a button for that at the top of the thread list in this sub forum.
