I have a brand new 2004 F-150 Lariat Super Crew, 4x4. Aspen Green. This is my first pickup... and I love this truck. Old car was a Land Rover Disco w/ 158,000 miles. IMO, and for what I need, the new Ford Truck is far superior to my old ride.
Anyway, my question is this.... when I turn off the truck.... say after driving home from work.... there is a light pinging sound or knocking that last for about 15 minutes or so. Not any pattern to the sound, just sounds like things are sort of cooling down, etc. Is this normal? Are any of you other new truck owners experiencing the same?
Happy New Year to you all! Best wishes for a prosperous 2004. And thanks in advance for any assistance.

its normal. The lighter weight metals used in the engine and exhaust (aluminum) dissipate heat faster and therefore contract faster. Nothing to worry about. Totally normal.
