Hi all. I'm new here - joined today as I just acquired a 1975 F-150 truck - Explorer model. I'd appreciate if you pros can give me some more inside info on this baby and where I should start about learning some more about it.... I'm more of an Explorer guy myself and this pick-up is my first one...
Hi and welcome to FTE
I am sure that most of your questions can be answered here. Between all of us, we have seen or done it all more than likely.
Jimmy
The *Explorer* is just a trim package from Ford.
as is Custom,Ranger,XLT,Lariat.
All the info on this is stored on other threads, but if you have specific questions, please ask away
thanks... and that's what I'll probably do... read on as questions come-up.
For now all I know is that it's a truck that would need a few items fixed... not big items but non the less important. See, I was told that this truck has an Explorer package but then inside it says Custom on the glovebox door... doesn't really matter to me... too bad it's not a 4x4 but heck! I can live with that... I still have my built-up monster Explorer
as questions come up I'll start asking.... first I'm gonna need to find out what size engine sits under the hood, whyt type of tranny I've got and what gears. Engine's got a lifter nosie... it's not pretty - I might have to take her in for a valve job....
well, thanks so far.... I'll be here more often...

This is awesome site for Ford Trucks and Broncos. Lots of resto and NOS parts. Best site I've found.
BTW - Mine is a '79 F-150 Custom Explorer 4X4. When I bought it back in '80 the dealer told me that the Explorer name designated that the vehicle was a 4X4 and had beefed up suspension (mine is double shocked in the front).
Whatever you've got, welcome to Ford Truck Country!
None Better!!
Another REAL good site is NPD,Natonal Parts Depot. They are also in the truck business to. Huge cataloge, so much to wish for so little money, but I'm working on it
thanks again... got my VIN plate numbers... after decoding my VIN I got this:
Model Year: 75
Series: F150 - 4x2 Pickup
Engine: 8 Cyl, 360ci, 2bbl
Assembly Plant: Ontario Truck
Transmission: The only information provided is Automatic. My guess is C6
Front Axle: No code selected
Rear Axle: 3.00 3750lb Ford
upgrading tires to around 32-33" - which gear ratio I should go for?
truck is pretty peppy on the road... I don't really like to loose that.

That guy was wrong.
The Explorer designation is only a TRIM line.
Here is a copy of a paper from when I bought my truck new in 78.
I know.... Skyjacker doesn't even make one for a 2wd.... I'm "Exploring" my options now.... entire front end would have to be modified if I wanted to lift it more then 2".... spacers, longer coils... I guess I'm gonna talk to the guy at the shop when I pick-up my Explorer next week...
for now all I know is that I do own a 1975 F-150 2WD Explorer Custom with nice yellow stripes and missing Explorer emblems... starting to look for parts now... here we go!
thanks for the link in my last post... I had to get a new account because I messed-up my Drey account somehow...
anyway, I'm looking at some lift choices right now but have to first focus on working on the most important items... rockers are nearly gone... bed gate keeps poping out... it's so rusted... I got to replace that..
i have a 77 F100 Custom Explorer, by reading this thread i now realize why my truck looks so good, with all the chrome trim and bumber and tailgate lettering.I noticed other trucks like mine that don't have the Explorer package and they don't look as good.i've also noticed that with the Custom option that I have.I know that my truck is rare because I have never seen another just like it. Was the Explorer package a rare option back then?
