Sticking hatch door lock

On our 96 explorer with electic locks, the rear hatch door sometimes doesn't unlock properly. I've lubricated the actual lock, but that didn't help. It seems like the **** isn't popping up enough, since if one pulls it up manually the door is unlocked and works properly.

Another odd thing is that with the glass door, it seems to be locking automatically after being opened and closed once.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the locking mechanism is out of alignment. You will need to remove the interior panel to be able to access the lock. From there, make sure that all mounting points are tight. I had a problem with the same thing after I was rear ended, but the body shop took care of it so I don't know what they did exactly. Hope that helps and let us know how you make out.
