I've installed a new Alpine CD player in my '89 Ranger and it sounds fantastic with my Infinity speakers. My only concern is that it heats up so much. Is this normal for a CD player? Or is it because the CD player is right below the heater blow-holes? Does anyone else have experience with this?
The pioneer I have in my truck heats up quite a bit, too. As long as you don't smell anything burning (the "hot plastic" smell), or blow a fuse on it, I wouldn't worry....
I have a 2002 Alpine CDA-7892 head unit and in the manual Alpine states that even though it will get quite hot it is NOT a malfunction of the unit.
My player does get quite hot after some continuous play and when the faceplate is detached it itself is still quite warm. If you need a second opinion find a board that deals in car audio or give Alpine a call. I'm sure they'd be glad to offer you some advice.
seems to me that alpines have always run hot...like when you eject a cd and you pull it out with ur hand, the cd feels really hot. im pretty sure its normal
