Could someone Please tell how to get out the king pins so I can
change the seals on a Dana 60 4x4? Maybe a diagram or 2 HA,HA.
Right front is leaking bad with only 40,000 mi on it. By the way
I would not recommend Mills Ford on Lincoln in Anh. to anyone
for anything. Not very nice people. I thought it was a Dana 50 but
I think I was wrong. It's a 98 axel in a 99 F250 Super Duty truck. Any ideas?
Thanks, Bobbylee
You probably don't need to change the kingpins. Four bolts hold in the top bushing. It is a nylon bushing with a spring. Replace the bushing. Lower is held in also with . . four bolts? and it is a bearing. Replace the bearing. Should you need to actually change the kingpin itself you will need to take it to a shop. Takes a very large impact wrench to get them out and back in.
I don't know what year your truck is, maybe not all are the same. This is how mine is. Hope it helped some.
I'm also trying to replace the king pins on my Dana 60. Poking around a bit I saw an article that talked about a 7/8 hex tool costing over $50 and a long bar to break the 700 foot pounds to get it off.
I already bought the king pins along with the plastic busing and bearing for the lower king pin and every thing I to rebuild the front end. I'm intent on getting the king pins out and am struggling to find a place to get that 7/8 hex tool with the 3/4" drive that can take 700 foot pounds. I already own a 3/4" drive set so I just need that hex tool. I'd also like to figure out where to get a torque wrench that can go that high.
If you or any one has any good places to get one I'd appreciate it.
