95 Ranger OBDII-Here's the answer
I came to this forum trying to find out what type of scanner would work on my 95 Ranger to find out why my check engine light was on. If you remember the threads-good. If you haven't seen them-doesn't matter. The answer is the Autoxray2000. Worked like a champ. When I found this scanner I was unsure if it would work, because the 95 is (well, you know, not exactly the poster child for Ford). But it worked. (The scanner was a Christmas present from me to me!). Turned out to be a code 340-Camshaft position sensor. I didn't know I even had one. The Haynes manual said it was only on California trucks with 5 sp xmsns. Mine is a 3.0 auto in Alaska. When I finally found the CKP (why they call it that I don't know) I pulled the sensor off and guess what? It was destroyed inside. Much to my delight, I went to the local NAPA store and bought a new sensor ($50-almost crapped my pants-it's a small piece of plastic with a small magnet.) But I was really glad to find the problem and was willing to pay the price. Put it on-drove the truck 6 miles-got another check engine light. Turns out the "camshaft synchronizer assembly" is the offending part. Call #1 Ford parts dept-$175 in stock. #2 Ford parts dept-$117 have to order. I went for #2. The light has been on for several months, so I figure a few more days won't matter. Hope to have the "check engine light" turned off soon.

I do recall your posts regarding what type of OBD system your '95 Ranger had. It's considered one of those "borderline" cases since the switch from OBD I to OBD II happened in the middle of that year. IIRC, you were having trouble finding a code reader and/or scan tool that would work on your system.
I've seen other posts where the whole camshaft synchronizer assembly had to be replaced, and not just the CMP sensor. So they do seem to be a wear item.

Glad you found your problem.
I think I will stick with my 94 model without the Crank Position Sensor.
P.S. The Haynes is a joke. I wouldn't trust anything it says. For example, two bolts get the thermostat housing off.....it won't say what you have to do to get to those two bolts, though!
