Help! I have just bought a '98 F150 Lariet, 4x2, 3-door, with the 4.6L engine. I am assuming a factory antitheft system since I haven't located a hang-on unit under the dash. This system has a mind of its own and will activate whenever it wants to. What can I do to disengage this thing so that I can sleep at night?
Exactly what is it doing? Are you talking abou the anti-theft (PATS) system with the special key and your truck won't start. Or is it some kind of siren or horn going off?
after the truck is shut off, the horns sound and the lights flash whenever they feel like it. I can turn it off only by manually unlocking the doors. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
So you have the factory keychain remote and it doesn't do anything? I would put new batteries in the remotes and spray the door latches with WD-40 to make sure the conections inside are clean. Other than that not sure what else would help.
so dirty latches can make the alarm go off at random? I don't have the remote, but I'm sure it came with one so I am going to try to find one. I will give this a try and see what happens. I went ahead and pulled the battery cable tonight so I can sleep. Thanks.
It's a long shot, but do you park your truck near the street? Loud exhausts and/or music can set off the alarm by vibration. If you have a factory alarm, I don't think it should be arming itself after you shut off the engine, unless you hit the power locks just before you shut the door. If it is an aftermarket alarm, there might be a valet switch somewhere. Look by the emergency brake brackets or the glove box.
I do park relatively close to the street, but we don't have a lot of traffic in this subdivision. It does have the automatic locks when you engage the transmission and the passenger door is usually locked all the time. If I start locking the doors manually, do you think that would help?
I have a similar problem in my 2002 Expedition. The security system functions properly, but a while back I had the dealer reprogram it so it didn't beep the horn everytime you closed the doors, locked the doors, unlocked the doors etc. Then a couple of months later it just started beeping the horn again...does anyone know how to reprogram these things (factory installed)?
Is anyone near you, that just has to HAVE A SUB WOOFER throbbing? They cause unecessary vibrations and the alarm senses it, causing it to trigger. I use to see it everyday in my work place office parking lot. Not to mention un-needed distortion in music.
