Mine is 3/4 inch plywood with a formica top on welded steel legs. If it was hollow, all the weight would go right thru it.

Sudsrat,
The desktop cnc is s a 4-axis (maximum 3 axis simultaneous) cnc. It was a prototype machine built about ten years ago by a company out of Georgia. It's travel x==12" y==6" z== 8" and also has a rotary axis that can be mounted on the table. Giving rotation in x,y,z planes. Its has a variable speed spindle up to 5000 rpm. I use it mainly to machine soft metals and plastics.
On occassion I machine EDM electrodes on it.

The lathe is a manual micro-mark 7x12. Use these two pieces of equipment mainly to prototype small mechanisms.
