I just Bought a 1985 Bronco II Truck.
I'm not really sure of utility of front wheels lock.
is that only to engage the front wheels in case of need 4x4 mode ?
or is for lock the 4 wheels together ? that will mean when lock is free (off) the 4x4 is 2 wheel engage one front and one rear.
it is snowy here and at this moment my lock is on and i'm drivin in 4x4 Hi gear all time.
The lock on the front wheels is to lock the front wheels to the transaxle, which matches speed with your rear wheels, giving you 4x4 mode. 4WD is NOT for level flat surfaces, nor is it intended to be used all the time. Use it sparingly and only when needed. This reduces wear and tear.
You can lock the front wheels and drive in 4x2 mode until the 4x4 is needed. When in 4x2 mode("free" on the front wheels.) it is the rear wheels only that are active.
Please feel free to ask me any other questions as needed!
