TTB 44 diff cover idea

I was wondering if anyone had tried this: You take a TTB 44 center section and start studs into the bolt holes. You then take the DS TTB arm and cut just inside the bolt pattern for the diff all the way around and throw that piece of metal away. Then take the center section with the studs and put them through the bolt holes. Then use a regular 44 diff cover, put it over the studs from the other side of the arm, and then use nuts to fasten it all together. That way you'd have easy diff inspection and easy axle replacement if you had to get to the C clip on the PS stub axle. Just an idea, but what is everyone elses' thought on this?

I wouldn't recomend doing this. The rigidity of your axle housing is relying on that piece of metal to be there. Whats going to happen if you take that out is that you've effectivly removed all the strength from your axle. It would be like cutting the center section out of your rear axle, and using muffler clamps to hold the tubes in. It will not only leak and bend, but be unsafe. DO NOT DO THIS.

I was figuring it was going to be something along the lines of that being a structural part, but had to ask any way.

It's a structural part, and henceforth, if you cut it out on the outside of the bolt pattern, it makes a nice, nearly indestructable cover for a standard D44... LOL
