Yeah..
I had both the door motor's out today repaired one replaced the other but when i got to the tailgate i could see the motor but had no idea on removing it..How would you get the window down if the motor is locked up?Would you need to remove the top?
I hope you have already applied power to the motor.......only two wires come off of it and sometimes the safety swich could be bad or the gate not closed all the way.
You can remove the nuts on the brackets that are connected to the regulator to move the glass freely. Some yr gate have rivets insted of nuts........

With a meter i am getting 12volt's to the motor the passenger side door motor was rusted beyond repair on the contact's themselve's and the inner casing of the motor..I can only assume that the same is with this tailgate motor the truck took a bath in a lake for about a week around 3 year's ago and has been parked every since everything is rusted everything...But the frame is unusualy good shape for an 86..The driver's side window motor appeared to have small river rock's in it not sure how they made it thru the sealed casing
On edit i posted two links that might be of some help.......not telling you what to do, but i would still try power direct to the motor........Good luck

Thankyou for the advice..I will try direct power just as soon as i can get the motor out..I appreciate all your time and help...
anytime......just forgot to stress with the gate open make sure you support the glass on something when you slide it out to work on the motor..... I've heard a few have broke glass - not good.
It's not that hard except the small area to work in.........
