My 58 sat for 20 plus years. its got that syrup type crap inside from gas gone bad .Is there somekind of solvent i could put in it to break this up to flush it out or should i just replace the tank? thanks.
I also took mine to a radiator shop. They boiled it out and sealed it. Cost me about $100. I cleaned it out myself a few years ago, but condensation took over, and the tank started to rust and flake off. Since the sealing, I haven't had any problems with dirt or crap in my filter!! Well worth it!

fordfaggiole,
If you are set on doing it yourself, I used lacquer thinner and a handfull of screws to do an ATVtank that had that sticky crud in it. I put about a half a quart in the tank with the screws and shook it until I thought my arms would fall off. I drained it and repeated the process with metal etch in place of lacquer thinner. Flushed it with water several times and then I used some left over gas tank sealer. The radiator shop sounds like a good choice too.
Good Luck,
Thanks guys. This truck sat for a long time so everything gummed up.haven't even got to the brakes yet.lol.I'll have lots of beginner questions through the winter.i,m trying to organize all this info before i start this spring.
Just an after thought, in earlier posts, from 2003, other home fixers reported using a length of heavy chain in the tank to break the muck up. Good luck, John
