My husband is installing a new AM/FM/CD stereo in my 1993
conversion van and having major problems. The biggest is when
you turn the radio up over mid way the speakers stop working.
If you unplug the speakers to the back of the stereo and hook
it back up they come back on but go out again if you turn it up.
Everything I have read on the forum says something about an
amp but he can not find one and there is not a power source for
one either in the stereo hook-up. He now thinks it could be the
speakers. Could somebody please Help . Nothing on installdr.
for this problem.
when it stops working, do the lights on the deck turn off or does the deck stay on just make no sound. did the speakers work before?
my first instinct points to the deck, is it possibly defective?
The radio stays on with signal and all. The drivers side front speaker didn't work but we tried running the system with just
that speaker unhooked and it still killed the rest.
can you try it with speakers you know to work?
is this a new deck?I have a suspicion that there is a problem internally, like a cold solder joint that causes problems when it starts to heat up?
I would try the deck with speakers I know are good, anything 4 or even 8 ohms would work, then if it doesn't work with the other speakers, I'd prolly see if I could exchange it.
if you have technical electronic skills you could open it up and see if you can fix the problem, but this usually voids any warranty, and most people don't have the know how anyway.
