Maybe in your case but its huge differance in power in my case. I'm not trying to bash Ford at all. My Dodge is just way faster. More Power. More responsive. And it has 301,000. miles on it. My F-150 has 3000 miles on it. Go Figure.
I don't remember what I was reading, but they really modified how the engine and transmission interact. They stated torque input versus speed input. So the more throttle the more torque output? I wish I had it in front of me, but the way it sounded the transmission and engine work together to maintain torque output and shift accordingly and to prevent hunting. So from the sounds of it its several things. Its not the TRANS itself, but how its programmed to function.
I have a 04 F150, S Crew , FX4 , 5.4 . I was sort of worried about being able to pull around my buisness trailers which weigh about 6500 lbs , and my tractor which tractor, trailer, bushhog all together weight about 8500lbs. It pulled them about the same as my old hemi. Tuesday I had 3in dual exhaust installed and it made a very big inprovment in torque and topend. Just to give you an idea of the diff. The truck would not spin the tires no matter how hard I tried , but when I left the muffler shop going down hill it spun positive traction , and I wasn't even trying. It made a big difference with pulling to , the same strech I drive every day it would only get around 50mph by the time I reached the top of the hill . Today loaded with the tractor and bushhog it hit right at 60-62mph. I love it ! It really suprized me with the exhaust.
I put dual straight pipes from the converter back. It only cost $150.00 . I talked to a rep. from super chips and he said with the program they had and the way the motor is set up , the more you let it breath the more torque you will get. I got 3inch pipes with 4inch tips . I like it and I've had alot of compliments on it , but one of my friends had 2.5inch with 3.5 tips on his and there really isn't a noticable amount of torque and horse power difference. There is a little differnce in tone though, his is quiter and pops when you rev it up or make it kick into passing gear. My exhaust is deeper and alot louder , but you can't really hear it at all inside the cab of the truck with the windows up .
