After deciding that I didn't want to pay the dealer $350 to install the DRL,since they wouldn't let me order the truck with them,(fleet order only). I ordered the parts needed for about $60. The problem you ask? I can't find the plug for the relay that is supposed to be behind the glove box.The one behind the headlight is there in plain sight. My manual says it's there, but I haven't found it yet. Does anyone know where it might be hiding?
Thanks,
Well, I make 3-4 trips a year between my home in the east bay to our vacation/retirement place in Coeure d' Alene, and about half the trip is on two lane roads, and I don't want all the lights on the truck and 5th wheel burning for the whole 20 hour trip. This way I don't need to turn the lights on and off everytime We stop for gas or to eat. Yeah, I know it's lazy, but more convenient...
Maybe, if your truck is a late '01, the plug may be between the battery and the master clinder on the left side. My '02 had the plug in this position. It is a very early unit. Just a thought. If it would happen to be there, the relay you have won't work. Been there, done that.

Makes sense to me!
Understnad though that I am personally against DRLs on cars & trucks. You see, I spend a lot of time on a motorcycle and I NEED the advantage of my lights (duals on high beam). Too many lights on the road and I'll just end up blending in and someone is going to do the left-hander into me.
Daytime Running Lights are the law in Canada. Apparently they reduce accidents and increase visibilty by some big number. I have to admit, they do make vehicles a lot easier to see in some situations.
I found this thread kinda funny because here, guys are always trying to find a way to disable their DRLs. They can be a real pain if you're hunting. They're also a pain in the kazoo if you want to park and idle your vehicle for a while without attracting any unwanted attention.
Truck has a build date of mid Dec. 2000. Don't know if that is early or late in the model year.Couldn't find a plug that wasn't being used near the master cylinder though...
John, you won't find an empty plug, but you should find 1 large plug that has a single jumper plugged into it. Red w/white or gray tracer, I think. Your truck is an early to mid year '01. Another thing, the plugs are usually above the glove box door. Fact is, the relay bracket will screw into the header above the door. Keep looking, unless you truck is a stripper, the wires should be there. I know the XLs don't have them but an XLT should.
I'm with Monsta on this one. DRL's make me think GM and they never had a better idea. Besides, running lights are kind of like deer whistles on your bumper, they are not a deterent to collision.
Remember the 1953 Henry J, sold by Sears Roebuck, that came factory direct with a single white running light in the middle of the grille? It didn't work a half century ago either.

Oh, it probably worked alright, but they needed to save money, soooo...
