i am rebuilding a 360 and i am down to the cam removal, i took off the sprokets and the nuts on the cam but it will not budge. there is a round, looks like a washer around the front of the camshaft but i can not get it off is that what is holding it in place and if so how do i get it off
if there is a step be step process that someone has access to could i see it to make sure that i followed the steps correctly
That's it- That is a thrust washer. If yours is held in place by Philips-head screws, it may take an impact driver to get them loose. That's the only thing that keeps the cam in place- assuming you did remove the rest of the valvetrain already.
pward76 Gee, I guess you found me out that, I can't see much of what, I type with out my glasses. And having some little "ANGEL" play with them and ended up breaking them. OWELL hope that was to loud for ya because my heaing is bad too and, I'm even starting to talk to myself these day. So much for that!
Dear bored-68-ford, If your going to rebuild that FE do it the right way the first time around and you'll save time and money. You say you don't want to, I guess score is what you ment, the cam bearing by doing it wrong. You need to just Put in new cam bearing and be over and done with it.
Hey bored...............double check if a spacer was removed, wether or not the spacer is built into the new timing gear sprocket. If you put the spacer back in with an after market sprocket that includes the spacer thickness on the new sprocket, you will have problems down the road.
thanks for the help, i removed the cam. it was very tight to remove and the bearings were already damaged. some of them are gouged pretty bad so it was difficult to remove. and by the way i planned on replacing the cam bearings, i was just trying to take precautions so my engine would be 120% when i am done rebuilding it
