being as christmas is my first day off in six months I figured it to be the only time to get some painting done, but I think I am missing something. Ive got 8888 clear and in the formula it shows cs20 reducer which I dont have. mabey my supplier knows something I dont. Im trying to paint flares. Can the cs20 be eliminated or substituted? he gave me a whole box of stuff for two paint projects. Thank you.

Thinner is another name for reducer. All reducers are not the same. The clear I spray does not require a reducer but I get less orange peel if I do reduce it.
Other brands specifically call for a reducer and if your p-sheets call for the use of one, you probably should use it. There may very well be a chemical in the reducer that your clear needs.
Thank you and merry christmas. My spec sheet said to recoat within seven days, so I went ahead and sprayed the base coat, figuring that I could get my supplies tommorow. Thanx again.
The reducer was in fact substituded with one I was supplied with so I went ahead and sprayed the clear today. I sprayed a little faster than with the color but not as fast as an enamel. I tried to slow it down to get a more even coat but picked up the pace realizing this would cause runs. Now I have orange peel. I put on extra coats ( four ) realizing I would have to sand and buff. Any advice regarding the final steps would be greatly appreciated, i.e.dry time to sand and buff, grits, ect. Thank you.
Id give it at least 5 days. Its going to be a little harder to sand.
Start with 1000 WET paper. then 1500 then 2000.
Then you can buff it it out. Soak your paper for about a 1/2 hour or so.. some people like to add a couple drops of dish soap to help lubricate everything. Watch for seeds or dirt that will scratch your part. (seeds are the clear thats being sanded off balling up)
Meguiars offers sanding kits that have the paper and stuff in them that you'll need.

It's the nature of the beast and can be caused by any number of issues (i.e. wrong gun setting, wrong technique, & etc.). I don't know anyone that can spray it, without at least peel. Look closely at some of the factory paint jobs. It even has some peel.
I have had good results with spraying on 2 or 3 coats of clear, sanding, and then respraying a reduced light coat of clear. I find it easier than buffing.
