Anyone know what it would cost to have the window motors replaced in the doors of an F150. Cost of the motors parts to do this myself? Also, are there any things that might be tricky in doing this?
Are both sides not working? If so I doubt both motors would go out at the same time. It almost sounds like you're not getting power to the master switch, or the switch itself is bad.
I put one in a f250 last summer. Call parts store for price. Probably under $50 bucks. As for putting one in, it isn't very difficult.
Carefully remove the inside door plastic cover. 2 bottom corner screws and 1 screw in the arm rest. (you may have to struggle and move the cover around the door handle and lock button to remove it. Use a screwdriver or a fork screwdriver to pop out the plastic plugs (CAREFUL). (the plastic plugs push into the metal holes.) They can break easily.
Peel off the insulation slowly so you don't tear it. Take out the door speaker. (leave your window up) locate the motor by feel and take out the screws in the door that anchor the motor and remove.(bottom of door) the motor may drop too the bottom of the door. Reach down and pull out the motor. Unplug the wiring harness. Careful with the window after you remove the motor screws. It may drop down.
Done
Install in reverse. Just be careful with the plastic door cover and the plastic plugs that hold it in place. Line up the plugs with the holes and give them a sharp smack with your hand. They should snap into place.
Also to make it a little easier. There are dimples in the door in front of the bolts of the window motor. Drill those out so you can get a socket and extension on them.
I have found the best way to fix an electric window motor...... dc the wire harness, pull out the screws and let the motor fall into the door. Then pick it up, hook up the harness, it should work fine. If it does, put it back to gether and move on. That tactic has worked for me many times in many vehicles. The motor just needs kicked.
