64/65 Mercury Com-Chero

I have recently aquired a 64/65 Mercury Com-Chero. The nose looks like a 65 Comet and the Bed of a 64 Ranchero, it has a I-6 in it I assume it to be a 250, but don't know. Has anyone else heard of one of these? I know I cannot find anything about it else where online.

Thanks
Don

Don, Ford had to make their Canadian trucks in Canada during that time frame, and those all wear the Mercury badging. They should be identical except for the letters.

I remember the first 66 F100 that I saw with Mercury on it.

Hope this helps a little.

I had a truck like the one you described, about 20 years ago. Did a little work to it and sold it to a friend in the Portland Oregon area. Lost track of it after that. As I remember it was a 64-65 Ranchero, that had a 65 Comet nose installed. It most definitely was not a Canadian rig. I have seen the Canadian F-series pickups that jowilker is talking about, in fact saw a movie on TV a while back, starring Tom Sellick, that had a 67-72 Mercury pickup in it.
Installing a Comet nose on a Falcon (ranchero) is a nut and bolt operation, the Falcons and Comets were first cousins during the 60-65 years. Unbolt the Falcon nose and bolt on the Comet parts. It was necessary to use the Comet headlight wiring due to the dual headlights. The rig I had was a 6 cylinder, a 200 as I recall with 5 lug V8 suspension all around. The last I saw the truck is was painted maroon.
I liked the looks of the rig, thought it was something Ford or Mercury should have produced.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Roger, that sounds exactly like what it is, but it has a Com-Chero badge on the dash that looks like a production piece. Could be a homemade piece though.

Don,
I bet that "Com-Chero" badge is made from a COMet and ranCHERO scripts. Got to admit though that comchero sounds better than "ramet"!!
Good luck with the project.

I'm building one of these as we speak! I got a fiberglass ram air hood from Crite's restorations, and have a 351W in it. The Comet front end looks fantastic with the Ranchero rtear - Ford should have made this truck from the factory!

I am parting out a '64 Ranchero and with the leftovers I am probably going to buy a '64-65 Comet 4 door and switch everything over. I want to build a straight axle car. I think it should be pretty unique!

I'm sure the Mercury truck line didn't extend to the Falcon line after having a look through my Canadian parts books. I did see a couple of fullsize 57 Merc Meteor Rancheros at a car show last summer here in Red Deer. A few years ago I was going to try that trick, putting the 65 Comet front clip on my 64 Falcon sedan delivery. Unfortunately, I run out of time and space to work on it Wish I knew where it is now...
