Is their any diffrence in the 64 to 65 frames becides the twin I beam frount suspention. I would like to switch a 64 ford body onto a 65/66 frame. The one under the 64 is bent. Also has any body coverted the rear suspention over to coil overs. How hard was it and how is the ride.
There is some difference in the 64 and 65 truck frames aside from the front suspension. The rear part of the frames are no concern. The beds will interchange between those years. One difference, however, will be the front cab mounts. The 65/66 frames are wider at the front mounts. If you have any welding and metal-banging skills, making the 64 cab fit on the 65 frame should not be a problem. I'm not sure how the steering box might be affected. Also, keep in mind that your engine and transmission mounts will be different as well. If you are running an original drivetrain, you would have to make some mods.
Justin, Nate has made some good points, and I would like to throw a little more into the ring. As he pointed out, the engine and tranny, the cab mounts, will be different, so give some thought to finding a mid - late 70s (mildly)wrecked truck for the chassis and running gear. You can upgrade to power steering & disc brakes, ac, and much better ride by going that route. Just a thought.
