Engine Conversion

Okay what all is involved in switching from a 390 to a 351W in my 73 2wd truck? I need something with OD for traveling to diff shows and stuff....

I have looked into putting a AOD behind the FE.. but hats alot of expense and work when I can drop in a 351 and rebuilt AOD for about the same amt of money.

So how hard to go from the FE to a 351W Sb?

You'll just really need the Frame perches for a 302 or 351W from a 70's model truck. Your cooling system should be up to par to cool the 351W. I've read that the Tranny crossmember for the C6 and AOD are the same, But don't hold me to it. You'll also need a new driveshaft. If your fairly good under the Hood I'd hunt up a good late 80's model F150, F250 or F350 with the 351W and AOD as a donner and move up in the word to EFI. You should be able to find a good wrecked or salvaged Truck to use as a donner to do the swap. Then parts not used you can resale to make up some of the cost. If it's the truck in your Sig and you find a F250 or 350 with the 351/AOD combo the Sterling Rear will slide right under your truck and no new driveshaft needed. Plus you'll be upgrading the D60 rear to a stronger Sterling.
