I am the owner of a 96 ford power stroke f250, 94000 miles. has a towing package. Tail lights quit working. Headlights, turnsignals, brake lights are all ok. Checked fuses, and power distribution box all are ok. Bought new tail light wiring harness which did not work. I get juice on a brown wire all the way back to the tail light plug. Also purchased new tail light bulbs. HELP!
Up underneath the spare tire, is the wiring harness for the trailer lights. You could always tap into the appropriate wire in the harness, and run it back to the tail lights on the truck.
If brake lights don't work and everything else does, check turn signal switch in column. When the steering wheel is pulled down the harness will pull loose enough to cause the rear lights not to work. 96's were bad about this. 2cent zip tie cured mine. Hope that's it.
