autozone informed me that my 1999 f150 was missing out on the #4 cylinder. Ford wants 250.00 for plug and COP. Question; is it that difficult to replace the #4 plug?
I would bet that it is the COP. #4 seems to be a common problem on the V8's.
If you look at the top of this forum, read the FAQ thread, I believe that it walks you thru the plug change.

The spark plug is around $4.00 and the COP is $81.00 (at the Ford dealer). Buy the spark plug socket wrench that's made for this application. It's like a deep socket that's about four inches long with a rubber grip inside. You can buy the socket at the local parts house.
Number 4 is on the passenger's side back against the firewall so there'll be some cussing and fumbling, but you'll get it out OK. Blow the debris out of the spark plug well before removing the old plug. Don't overtighten the new plug.
Guess what, my wife took the truck to a ford dealership....$380.00. They said the Cop and the plug went out...I told her to get the used parts back........and I didn't even get a christmas card from ford.
Thanks for all of the quick responses, it was really appreciated though.
$300 in labor? what do you Ford techies think about that? is it worth that or should I plan on doing it myself? I realize that some jobs are worth having someone else do for $300, like kingpins in the old trucks, but changing a spark plug for $300??????? it must be one heck-of-a job!!!!!
I'd be very interested in seeing what exactly the repair order said they did. It would be great if I could get away with charging $300 to replace a plug and COP but I sure cant see that happening.
I would definately get a itemized reciept with parts and labor listed!! Sounds like you were robbed at gunpoint!! It's also over $200 so it was a felony!!
Happy holidays,
Jimmy
