I have a 351 that has been stroked to a 408 that I am installing in my 94 F150. The engine has been built with all high quailty, performance oriented parts and will be using the Ford 42 lb/hr injectors(may in future add nitrous?). My stock, in-tank fuel pumps are old, tired and in need of replacement. I have been unable to locate any aftermaerket, higher output pumps specifically made for this truck. BBK has the 255lph pumps for Mustangs of the same vintage. Will this Mustang pump work?I contacted BBK and they said that they had not tested these pumps on trucks, and therefore could not say if they will work. So the question is are they able to fit in the truck tank and is the voltage compatible for the pump to work properly? I would like to be able to use these aftermarket pumps vs. stock pumps and an in-line booster pump, since my stock ones are in need of replacement anyway. Any help would be appreciated!
I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the fuel pumps would be very very similar if not the same, in terms of dimensions. I have also read that you will need to upgrade the fuel rail to use injectors bigger than 24 lb/hr. They physically can't flow enough fuel to the injectors. I'd get one of the bbk pumps and compare it to the pump on your truck. If it's the same size and will go in the same spot on the sending unit, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Thanks for that, I do have larger fuel rails, paxton rails I beleive. This engine has about 1000 miles on it, I had it built for a 1995 Bronco. In the bronco, I was using a Vortex X-Trim on this 408. I had a sumped tank , 3/4 braided fuel line, Paxton Kamikaze pump and Paxton Adj. Reg. I am not going to use a blower on the engine now that it is going in the truck, so I need to change out the cam (114 lobe centers an existing cam used for blower) and figure out the in tank pump situation for the F150. Anyone else tried the Mustang pumps?
Yes, I did check at the ford dealership locally, they had different part #'s, but that was for the pump/pickup assy. So I still dont know if just the pump is the same or not. They also did not hae any in stock for that old of a vehicle to do a comparision check. Thanks for the suggestion!
