any of you 80to86 F series owners have gauge problems
Hi i am having gauge troubles with my truck they are really starting to bother me they dont read correctly at al do any of you have these problems to low oil presuure temp and gas gauge readings? if so is there a way to fix them are there aftermarket gauges avaliable that would cure the problem?
i installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge in my 83 f100. the stock one just sucked. my gas gauge on my back tank is 1/4 tank off towards full. so when im on 1/4 tank im really on empty. but my front tank gauge worked until the tank rusted through and i took it off. i need a mechanical temp gauge but ran out of room to mount it. my oil pressure gauge is under the dash to the left of the ashtray. theres a constant voltage regulator behind the instrument cluster that supplies 5 volts to the gauge sensor. you might try changing that and the fuel tank sending unit. that would probably fix the gas gauge. then buy a guage set for the oil pressure and temp. you can buy a gauge pod for the a pillar so you can mount gauges there. i need one for my truck. they sell em in jc whitney.
Ford has always said if the gauges read in the normal all is well. My Mustang GT read goffy. I did as th person above put mechanical oil & water gauges in my 86 F250.
Your truck has an "instrument cluster voltage regulator" on the back of the cluster. It is about an inch and a quarter long by half inch square. It has a mounting tab and plugs in to the cluster with terminals like on a 9 volt battery. When they go bad the gauges will act really weird. Hope this helps.
