Rear clunking after light acceleration

Shortly after purchasing my 04, I too starting hearing a "clunk" only it happens when I first place it in drive. I wonder if the floorboard noise and this one are related?

Here is the detail:
Ignition is turned on. I either place it in reverse to back out or in drive to move on. Once I depress the gas I hear a clunk as if something is coming free to engage or tightening some slack before engaging. It does not happen again until the engine is turned off then back on.

This used to happen maybe 60% of the time. Lately, I would place the possibility at 90%. The dealership it trying to address the problem. They have contacted Ford Engineers for some help as they have not been able to isolate the noise. They also test drove another 04 6.0 PSD from their lot and found it was doing the exact same thing.

Anyone else having the same issue? If so, I would like to gather as much information from you to get Ford on the ball to resolve it.

It is a "clunk" or a "click"?

Mine would "clunk", it was the slip yoke.

It would also "click" which was driveline lash. Which would happen as you described.

Do you use your parking brake?

It is definately a clunk. Sometimes its pretty faint but often sounds pretty solid where you can feel it. And it only happens the first time I place it in drive after turning the truck on.
What was done to resolve your noise?

The first noise was resolved by replacing the driveshaft.

The second noise (the click) was never really resolved.

I would try not using the parking brake and see if the noise persists. I could be freeing itself up (of sort) when you first take off.

If that is the case, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
