Angry whats wrong?

im new to inline 6s but i bought my uncles 81 f 150 with a 300 and 4 speed transmission and i had it for a couple of monthes and then one day i went out to start it and it turned over and over and over but it just wouldn't go. so i changed the spark plugs but same results put a different battery still nothing. so im wondering what could it be? alternater?

Check and see if you have spark. New plugs won't help if they're not getting any juice. Pull a plug wire, plug it on one of your old plugs (or any plug) and ground it against the engine. Have someone spin the engine a little while you watch for spark. DON'T TOUCH unless you like pain. It's good to have a fire extinguisher around. At least be sure you don't smell or see gas before you try this.

If you're not getting spark to the plugs, it could be the coil or distributor ( or maybe wires).

If you're getting spark, check and see if you're getting gas in the carb. Remove the air cleaner and look down the carb while you work the linkage. You should see a jet of gas. It also makes a hissing sound and gives off the aroma of petrol.

If you're not getting gas, it could be the fuel pump or a clogged filter or line. Be sure it is gas if something is getting there - it could be water.

well, i had that same problem just the other day, it ended up being the fuel pump relay, its sounds like it has to do with feul delivery, so check the fuel pump and whatnot

More than likely, with these older rigs, it could be the ignition module thats mounted on the drivers fender... if this dies, no amount of parts swapping will ever make that truck start. You can pick one up from the junkyard for pretty cheap, and also brand new at your local parts house... when you go to ask for one if this is your problem, take your old one with you, or just note the color of the plugin grommet on the box itself and ask for that.

90% of the time most no start issues are related to this box, i had the one on my truck die...and the first symptoms were it would shut off while cruising....then magically restart after a few minutes.

Failing that, check out the magnetic pickup in your distributor, and check all connections aside from plug wires that connect to the distributor.

Hope this helps ya.

1º There is fuel in tank?
2º There is fuel at carburetor? (Press gas pedal to bottom and verify fuel is falling down to intake manifold)
3º There is spark? (Disconnect a plug to check spark?
4º Spark is big enought?
5º Climatic control at carburetor is working?
6º Is there spark while cranking?

It could very well be a dead battery causing your no start condition, or corroded battery terminals.

Try jumping the battery, or replacing it with a known good one... and see if it will turn over then.

Failing that it could be your solenoid on the fender, and if it is that, its about $6 and about 5-10 minutes to replace....

Good luck, i hope ya get it goin!

It sounds like Ignition system has problems, check:

1° Ignition Coil
2° Spark plugs
3° Plug wires
4° Distributor cap and rotor
5° Ignition module
