Baseball..........will you go back?
My great uncle loved baseball. He even played a little proball(minor league) when WWII broke out. during the last strike he was bed ridden with cancer and didn't get to watch his beloved game. He was so upset about what they were fighting about. He said that they should have been there when he was there and he had to hold another job to provide for his wife and two kids. He died that year and I have nothing but contempt for these greedy little snot nosed brats. If they cared about their fans then they would have started working this out along time ago and not kept it a secret. I feel that they use the fans as leverage. The big problem is they are telling the owners about all of the money they won't be able to bilk out of the fans.

As for little league. How long after the kids are done do they start whinning for big salarys. It won't end until there is a salary cap.
When I apply for a job I know that 95% of all employers will require a drug test. No big deal, it is a condition on employment. You can choose not to take the test and then choose not to have a job. To me it is that simple. These guys make un believable money to play a game that most of us would play for free.
Oh, Barry Bonds, when a bus driver strikes he wants better health insurance or 30 cents more and hour. And people ride the bus because they have to. They can't afford a car after taking their family to see your team play.
I am self hater. I know I should'nt do it but I can't help myself.
I must like to beat myself up or something.
The salaries, the steroids, the cry baby mentality, and the arrogant owners, all contribute to make professional baseball a game that it was never meant to be. I think baseball really changed when TV got a hold of the game. This is when the money started to escalate. Everything else followed. I have not been to the Fenway Park since 1986, but I could'nt get the front row first base line seats again anyway. Nevertheless, I don't know any working family man that could afford to take the wife and two kids out to see a game. Who can afford to drop $200.00 on tickets and then have to feed everyone at ballpark prices. Not to mention being stuck somewhere in the park with a lousy view of the game for his $200.00! No, I think it may be better to sit back in a comfortable chair, close your eyes, twist off a cold one, turn on the radio, and listen from your porch on a hot summer night.
The way all professional sports have evolved into a mega industry really has changed these games. They simply have been sacrificed to the entertainment gods. Where is the difference between this and $50 or $100 concert tickets for some famous musicians? Some people say country music will never be the same since the grand ol opry went on TV. It is all entertainment. Sometimes I really suspect that the game is crooked and outcomes are fixed. Like it or not, this is what they have become, and people will keep going to see these guys play for the big bucks. My watching on TV, or listening on the radio, will not change it. It must be what the fans want because they support it. I don't support it economically, because I don't go to the park. If I buy anything that their sponsors advertise, I would have purchased it anyway. No glitzy ad will EVER make me buy Budweiser! Make me gag yes, buy and drink, no! So I roll with the punches, enjoy baseball, boxing and college hoops. I am not a nut or fanatic, but like I say, I can't help it. Strike or no strike, I will be there next spring waiting for the teams to begin their trek northward from Fla, anticipating opening day, knowing full well that these guys are mostly jerks and the game stinks. I have grown up with it, and it is a part of America (this includes Canada, the last time I looked at a map),and my anticipation of the summer to come.
This probably explains why I am a Red Sox fan. No one need'nt feel sorry for us, we have enough of that to go around without anyone's help. I remember Ted Williams, Roberto Clemente, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Moose Skaron, Yogi Bera's #8 and the Brooklyn Dodgers. No, it "aint" the game it once was, but what is, as it once was? See ya on the porch for a cold one and I hope the radio does'nt bother you.
ive been a Cleveland Indians fan since birth (or somewhere around there) so i feel your pain. i just cant stand the way the game is going and where it will go in the future. i know that baseball, at that level, is a bussiness but their messing with our national past time. their messing with something that, in its pure form is still a game that we all love. greed and power have taken so much from us all and now it threatens the sweetest game on earth. the game is a joke now. how do we know when a record is broken its not tainted? look at guys like sosa or mac, these guys ,if painted green, could go to hollywood and shoot an all new "incredable-hulk" show. how can you look at those guys and think their not roided out of their minds? and you know they arent the only ones in the game that shoot the juice.
the other thing thats killing the game is the lopsided money issues. how can any team compeat with the cash that the yankees have to throw around? here in cleveland we soldout close to 400 games at the jake and couldnt keep Manny or any of our heavy hitters over the years. now Bart Colon(the pitching we were always lacking) is gone and we're "rebuilding"? a year ago we had a Gold Glover at every position and now look at us! i just dont get it.
ill join you on the porch for that beer, and i never watch the game unless im at the park.
See you on the porch for a good cigar and a cold one...with the radio on.

I guess I am nostalgic for the old days and want to pretend they never went away. It feels good, especially on the old porch.....: I would like to see Thome sooner, rather than later.
