Not that I really watch it much, but they seem to be adding instant replay.
I can't tell you how much I that I think it already sucks for football. ( And they're considering it for some High school games around here!)
Play the game -- and football -- get rid of those radios to the quarterback/defensive captain. Signal, send in sub players -- or let the players play the game!
thats why there is more hype over who signs on for what amount than what the person actually has done.
bad calls suck, but that use to be and should be part of sports. but unfortuntly money has now trumped the game part of it. when money is involved, they will try their best to make everything perfect.
technology is good in some cases, like safety, shoes and such, but when it replaces or supplements what a human should be doing (i.e., the helmet mics) then to me it goes to far.
next thing you know we will be having the nascar drivers driving remote control cars because it is safer, oh yes, only the truly good looking and marketable need to apply, no driving skills required, the computer programer will make up for that.
Bf hit the nail on the head. Players make mistakes during the game, how can we expect the Referee to be perfect? And, even with instant replay, there will still be mistakes, or situations where the replay will be ineligible for use.
Bad calls will always exist, but unless something is really wrong it evens out in the end.
I think the pressure for the instant replay comes from the television aspect of the sports now - it's kind of embarrassing to have the couch potatoes at home be able to make better calls than the umpires/refs 'cause the folks at home get to see the close plays seventeen times on their 60" hi def screens.
So technology will be taking over everywhere... there's a surprise.
The game is played and called by humans. Calls go both ways. Now, they are talking about instant replay on boundry calls (home run and fair/foul *****). The game has survived 100+ years with out instant replay.
I would hate the fact that tomorrow when I go to work my boss tell me I can make this and no more because employee x,y, and z have to make a certain amount and I can't go ever a certain amount even though I have the money to pay more. Free enterprise system weather you like it or not is still the best way.

Uhhh.... what? Sorry, I don't get it.
The more instant replay comes into the game, the longer the game will take and the more people who claim baseball is too slow will say, "The games are too slow!" I agree with the umpires getting together to discuss a home run/ ground rule double, or to discuss foul/ fair, but that's about as far as any call reversal should go. That way, it is still decided by humans, not technology.
Mens Baseball, football, Ice Hockey, and Basketball...the four popular sports in America.. (maybe Golf too) are all very exciting to watch.
I am OK with all the changes over the years..and really don't mind a new rule, or way of playing any of the games.
If you think instant replay/review stinks...wait till they get computer-synchronized and controlled robotic umpires and refs on the field.
