I couldn't figure out how to post this in the classifieds, so I am going to post it here.
I need a 1967 ford truck steering column, w/ a 3 speed on the column. I have looked every where for one. I have taken a full month off of my project, just searching for one.
I originally planned to just rebuild the column, but I have found out that the parts are obsolete( according the the local ford parts place) I have tried Dennis Carpenter, and every one else, and no one has the parts or the column
Please help, this is the last item i need before I can take her out for a test drive.
Thanks
I think you could use just about any vintage 67-72 column in your truck. Just make sure you use the turn signal switch for the 67 wiring harness. I think that is the only thing you need to deal with. All the rest will bolt right in.
I think other years(up and down) will also bolt in, just need to make sure signal wiring is changed. The newer columns just had different steering wheels. Not a big thing to change out.
Be careful with swapping columns, as some of the power steering equipped trucks use a shorter column. Bendix p/s columns are the same length as non p/s columns. Apparently sometime around 1970 model year Ford went with a different p/s (heard them refered to as Saginaw or Ford, not sure which is correct name) which required a shorter column. Most 3-speeds seem to be manual steering, so your probably okay, just something to consider.
